Husband of Faith - Prayer

A Christian Husband's Perspective

Each month I interview my husband, Rob. He share his thoughts about our monthly theme. He will help Wives of Faith understand a husband's point of view. He will help us understand what our husband's need.

This is a huge blessing. I am very excited about learning more of what makes my husband tick!

A Prayer Interview with My Husband of Faith

Prayer

Do you think Prayer is important?

Rob: Of course, prayer is important. It is the only thing we have to communicate with God.

Do you think Prayer is important in Marriage?

Rob: Yes, it is important in marriage!

Why?

Rob: So, we don't kill each other. LOL. Among other reasons like; goals, disagreements, insight, and especially making decisions that affect the family.

Does it matter to you if I personally pray for you in my private time?

Rob: Well, I certainly do not object. And, I appreciate that you do. You know I do the same for you, right?

Me: I hope so. ;)

How can a wife best pray for her husband?

Rob: If a wife knows her husband's struggles, she should pray for strength and wisdom in those areas. If she is just praying a generic prayer, she should pray for wisdom. She should pray that her husband understand the way God sees him. And, to effectively manage his role as husband and father if he is a father.

Is it important for a couple to pray together?

Rob: Yes! Where two or more are gathered in His Name, He is there. There is power there.

Me: Amen!

Has prayer helped our marriage?

Rob: Yes, it certainly has. Especially during very heated disagreements.

Me: That is VERY true!

My Thoughts: We have recently put this into practice more consistently and have noticed a HUGE change in our relationship. Pray and pray often!

What if a wife has a husband who is unwilling to pray with her for whatever reason?

Rob: Well, it depends on whether or not her husband is a Believer. If he is not, she should pray for his Salvation, and win him over by her actions like the Bible teaches.

If he is a Believer, she should initiate prayer and ask him to stand in agreement with her. Eventually, he may come around. Maybe he is shy about prayer, or does not feel confident.

Me: OK, but...what if her husband is a Believer and refuses to stand in agreement with her? Maybe he just does not see the need for prayer...

Rob: At that point, if he just refuses, and he is a Believer, then she has to lay him at God's Feet. She need's to leave him there and know that God will deal with him. However, she can not stop praying. She should pray for healing, spiritual understanding, and boldness.

Me: Great answer! ;) OK, now, here is an example from our personal experience; what if she asks her Christian husband to pray with her and he agrees...but, with rolling of the yes? You know like...

Rob: I understand rolling of the eyes. Reluctance is the word you are searching for. :) Even if he prays with reluctance, it is still prayer and God still hears it and Jesus is there.

Me: LOL! Got it! ;)

What advice do you have for a wife who always initiates prayer, and desire to have a husband who is the initiator of prayer?

Rob: She needs to pray for her husband to assume his role as priest of the home.

Me: What should she NOT do?

Rob: Get angry when he won't pray or lead. She shouldn't get angry. She shouldn't Bible thump him either.

Me: LOL! Oh, you mean like me and my junior Holy Spirit syndrome?

Rob: LOL! Yes, just like that!

My Thoughts: For those of you who are wondering what I mean by "junior Holy Spirit syndrome," let me explain...It is when a wife tries to be her husband's spiritual conscience. Or, when she tries to preach to him about all the areas that she knows where "he" is out of alignment in. Thank God I only have occasional bouts of this! LOL! I'm sure none of you suffer from this, eh? LOL! ;)

Any closing thoughts?

Rob: Yes. When a husband and wife do come together in prayer, they need to invite Jesus in, invite the Holy Spirit, invite God's presence, and thank them for being there. When they begin praying, they need to believe that what they are praying for they will receive.

Mark 11:24 - Therefore I say unto you, what things so ever ye desire when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.

Me: Thank you. :)

Rob: Sure. :) Now, let's pray...

Ok, ladies...I need to go pray with my husband about this interview and all of you!

You will be in my prayers as I hope I am in yours!

Have a Prayer Filled month!!

God Bless you and your marriages!

Until Next month,

Lara ;)
