Healthy Communication - Mini DevotionalBy: Lara VelezWe must talk to each other. If we bottle everything up we are basically a ticking time bomb. No matter how hard the topic, we need to talk about it. We need to communicate on a regular basis. If we only wait until there are big issues in the marriage, we will have a MUCH harder time communicating without making matters worse. The best way to get into the habit of regular communication is to schedule it. Take time once a week or every other week to sit down and talk. Talk about what is bothering you. Make plans for your immediate future and long term future. Share your hopes and dreams. Learn to just talk. We should also be having "mini" communication sessions every day. They can be as short as a couple minutes..."How was your day?" "Could you put gas in my car?" "I appreciate you and all that you do." "I love you." ... Just to name a few. Save the "big" stuff for your special scheduled time. Do not make the marriage all about the "issues." if you do, you will never find the joy filled marriage that God created you to have. Put the issues in their proper place. Learn to set them aside for the proper time. By doing this, we allow ourselves time to pray about the issues. We allow God time to work in US. We allow ourselves to have time to think about HOW we should share our feelings in a healthy and GOD pleasing way. Healthy Communication Tips:
In closing, you CAN do this! Trust in your God, the Great I Am, and remember, the Lord is not looking for perfection. He is looking for a WILLING vessel! His Grace will do the rest. Application Prayer:Daddy God, thank You for the precious gift of my husband. Please help me to be the wife that You created me to be. Please help me to put all of my hopes and expectations ONLY in YOU. Help us to communicate in a healthy way that brings glory to Your Name. Thank You, Lord. In Jesus Mighty and Loving Name, Amen!
