Wives of Faith Monthly Challenge - Kindness

Each month we feature a new challenge for Wives of Faith readers. The goal is to create better habits as wives, and begin to change how WE do things instead of trying to change our husbands.

Now the Lord God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a helper meet suitable, adapted, and complementary for him. ~ Genesis 2:18

WIVES OF FAITH MONTHLY CHALLENGE - Kindness

May 2007 - Kindness

The most common use of the word kindness in the old testament (Hebrew) is Checed (kheh'-sed) - respect, good, loving kindness, merciful. and from the new testament (Greek) is chrestotes (khray-stot'-ace) - usefulness, excellence in character, gentleness, goodness.

I also looked in the dictionary and thesaurus; good, sympathetic, considerate, accommodating, amiable, caring, compassionate, gentle, gracious, obliging, tender, and thoughtful.

This gives us a clear picture of what our focus should be this month! Let's take the time to SHOW kindness to the husbands that God gave to each of us. Good qualities and bad they are a gift from Daddy and they deserve our utmost respect and KINDNESS!

This month's Wives of Faith challenge is from Alicia Tucker. She is the Assistant for our sister site, Moms of Faith. She is a wonderful wife, Mother, and sister in Christ. You can find tons of great resources for Homeschoolers and MUCH more at her personal website. http://ahtucker.com

To get us started, I was reading in Ephesians 5:22-33. It discusses how marriage is similar to Christ and the church. I used the Spirit Filled Life Bible for this and it had a kingdom dynamics section that said that for wives, we should treat our husbands in this way...

Wives should...

  • respect him
  • acknowledge his calling as head of the family
  • respond to his leadership
  • listen to him
  • praise him
  • be unified in purpose and will with him
  • be a true helper

So, for this month's Wives of Faith Challenge, I want to kind of use this passage as our starting point.

Here is the challenge: In order to better praise our husbands and be true helpers, we need to say one kind thing to or do one kind thing for our husbands each day.

The kind thing you do may differ depending on your relationship with your husband. For me, it would be difficult to say that I will embrace at the door when he returns from work each day...because he works out of town all week and I do not get to see him until Thursday...but...I am able to e-mail him kind words to uplift him during the day...or call him just to check on him and not to complain about the kids...or make a special meal for when he returns...or put his laundry away...anything that will help him to know that he is appreciated and loved by me and that he is not last on my list of priorities in life.

Your friend in Christ,
Alicia
